Food takes centre stage at The Red Lion, we are set in the heart of the village, with our own pub garden to enjoy on warmer days.
We are dog-friendly (dogs allowed in the pub but not the restaurant) and welcome your four-legged friend to keep you company and soak up our ambience in the main pub.
Our menu has lots of fresh ideas. Prepared with love and passion by Head Chef Michael Duckett, who joins us with many accolades behind him.

Sunday dinner at the Red lion is incredible. I have been lucky to eat here many times with different people. Each and everytime the food does not disappoint.Coupled with the excellent staff and customer service. You couldn't ask for a better place to visit.
Every meal we have had in the Red Lion has been delicious. From special occasions to last minute walk ins - that are always accommodated - to the best Sunday roast, we would recommend to everyone.

Went there recently and had a really nice time in the restaurant area. The food was great and the staff were very friendly. I also liked how the tables are arranged, it feels spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room so you don’t feel cramped. Will definitely be back soon!
Popped in on the off chance of a table after a walk round the nature reserve. Staff were lovely and managed to squeeze us in (would recommend booking to secure a table). Sunday roast was delicious- best roast potatoes I’ve had in a long time on a pub lunch so compliments to the chef! Will definitely be back when next in the area.
Lovely pub. Bar food is tasty and inexpensive. Wraps are a favourite. The resteraunt serves high quality food and fabulous Sunday roasts.
Firstly I just want to say we have dined with you on several occasions now and the food and service has always been great. So this is not a review but feedback related to our Sunday lunch today. The food was great which we had already pre ordered so I wanted to give feedback in relation to service.We had a table booked for 3pm but on arrival clearly all tables were still occupied and so we were directed to the bar. Maybe a complimentary drink could have been offered?We were eventually shown to the table and ordered a drink, we didn't order starters etc. There appeared to be a large table of diners which was taking the attention of the waiting staff. The drink I ordered still hadn't arrived so had to ask again. Our food arrived which was great as always but we had little interaction from the waiting staff as they were still engaged with the large table. When that table was leaving they then spent time re setting the tables for other diners. We had finished eating but we're left with no interaction. I ordered two more drinks and was given the dessert menu but this was around 40 mins or so after we had finished our roast dinners. The drinks took an age to arrive and it took quite a while for someone to take a dessert order. At this point we had beets n in the dining room for an hour and half and received little attention. I decided to pay the bill and leave.To be honest it was quite obvious that there were too many bookings and the staff were struggling to keep up and other tables were clearly late to be sat.I realise that things can change at a moments notice but it would have been nice to have been kept informed.As I say this is not a review but feedback on the service today. The food and service is always exemplary but something was amiss today.
Sunday lunch was exceptional, we’re so making this a regular! Great food, great service and exceptional value for money.
Hello,We had a lunch there with a group of friends. We ordered a quite good variety of dishes from a manu and everyone was happy with their food.Preffered sitting outside because it felt better.The pub has a free car park with plenty of spaces but the entrance was quite narrow because of the buildings on a street. Had to carefully squeeze in. As soon as managed to get past the buildings didn't have any problems.The service was good. Please note that a discretionary service charge 12.5% would be included in a bill.Best regards,Rustam.
Sunday roast (chicken) was very good, service is first class, including staff memorising the orders for 7 people. Only thing that lets the place down is coffee. I would not call this coffee at all - just some strange synthetic substance.
I really enjoyed my visit to this pub, set in a very nice, picturesque location. They are eager to please - made a booking for 7, and had 3 lots of communication to make sure things were just right. The restaurant itself is small, but nice decor. The food itself - very nice indeed, not one of us had any complaints - well cooked, hot, tasty - very impressive. Staff were efficient and friendly, though not particularly smiley :) I would definitely recommend this pub for the food

Held a lovely family gathering in the courtyard at the Red Lion. The staff were very helpful and friendly, they made it really special and the food was delicious and good value for money. Lovely relaxed atmosphere too. Thank you Red Lion
First time in the pub ,very impressive was there for Sunday lunch, great food ,highly recommend it well done 👏
Lovely tasty food. The sole was cooked to perfection in garlic butter. The grilled vegetables were lovely. King prawns in garlic and the bread to die for. As was rib eye steak peppercorn sauce . Service very good. A must try a good bistro pub!
Nice place to meet up with friends and family, has a good size carpark and outside seating area.
The Red Lion is a brilliant local, the best in the village. It has a lovely family-run atmosphere. The team are so friendly, make an effort to get to know everyone, and treat the locals and guests with real care. They make a real effort to support local businesses too!!!
A bunch of us turned up and managed to get a couple of tables in the bar, to order drinks and bar food. The staff were very accommodating and we ordered a selection of delicious food, chicken wings, wraps I think and the beef brisket Mac 'n cheese was very good. Price of a pint wasn't too bad either and the Cruz Campo was tasty..
Superb food, brilliant service, very friendly atmosphere. I would highly recommend a night here. See you again.

Just had Sunday lunch with my family, had the roast sirloin of beef…cooked to perfection. All I can say having spent 45 years in the UK meat industry…it was fantastic!Look no further for Sunday lunch this is where to go. Great menu to choose from and good wine list and just really nice people.Try it 🍷👌

My friend and I just got back from having a delicious meal lunchtime at The Red Lion. We chose the Christmas dinner. Everything was cooked fresh. Nothing was frozen. The turkey succulent and plenty of it. Roast potatoes were yummy 😋 I had Xmas pudding and my friend had a chocolate torte. Both were really nice. A special hello to Abbey who served us. Polite and helpfull. We had a really enjoyable lunch.

Edit: the resturant has new owners and the food is still very amazing. Everything is freshly made, and there is so much choice on the menu. We are so happy that the village has a resturant with such a good food and lovely staff.Lovely Italian food, great staff and very reasonable prices! highly recommended
Great service and very friendly staff! I'd been advised to try the Red Lion for some time by friends who'd eaten there before and all said the food was great. I was pleasantly surprised at the high standard of food and great choice from the menu.we were also really well looked after by all the staff and felt very welcome there. I'll definitely be returning there.
We’d heard good things about the Red Lion and it didn’t disappoint. The menu choice was plentiful but not too much and for someone who has a gluten intolerance, unusually there was lots of choice. The food was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented, the waitress appropriately attentive. We were made very welcome and we’re already looking at when we can visit again. Highly recommend & good value. PS - the toilets were also very clean, always a good sign!
Not really one to post reviews but after visiting the Red lion and having a roast beef Sunday dinner.wowI am a massive foodie, takes up a massive amount of my life, so I know my food.I could not find one single element on my plate that was not cooked perfectly, staff and services second to none.If you like your food the red lion is a must.To those of the red lion, well done, keep it up.
Definitely a five star reviewThe calves liver was delicious, just melted in the mouth, best meal out for a very long time.The waitresses were very goodExcellent service.
As I was part of the psychic night, I didn't get a chance to eat, but the staff were friendly and willing to help in any way.
Had the most amazing meal and the Red lion this week! Even had some amazing cocktails. I highly recommend The calves liver I had it on my visit and it was delicious. Landlords and staff where super friendly and welcoming aswell.
Me and my brother went to this pub and it was the worst experience, the manager she was nothing short of rude had an attitude from the jump. refused to serve us stating she was only serving the customers that was sitting in the corner ( those being regulars) some other lady then came down asking us where we had come from. Unless you’re a regular then I would personally avoid this pub. The atmosphere is horrible, if I could rate it a 0 I would. Jolly fisherman up by the station is where I would recommend to anyone in the area. Staff are lovely. Avoid avoid avoid!!!
I ate lunch there yesterday, a Sunday, and had a lovely time. The food was delicious, the waitresses helpful and friendly, there was live music and we were able to get a nice table outside. Couldn't have been better. Highly recommended.
Had the pleasure after 2 years to return to the red lion pub saint Margarets.I met up with the owner of the pub who was very pleasant and had no problem with me bringing in my English bull terrier dog called Gary, the pub is very dog friendly and has a lovely area outside with benches and tables , had a amazing burger and chips which was delicious, I was with a group of 6 people and we had a lovely drink, the service was quick and friendly, we all said that we would definitely visit again

Worked here on as a vendor on one occasion to support with the football.The staff are amazing, lovely pub, lovely environment.Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely pub to visit.I didn't have the opportunity to try the food but saw a few people eating there, and the food looked amazing. We booked 20 for a committee lunch. Our preselected choices arrived promptly with friendly efficient service, excellent food both mains and desserts. We'll be back.
What a discovery by chance. Excellent food, service and friendly welcoming staff. You can enjoy the pub atmosphere and then go next door to a really smart but also relaxed restaurant. We are looking forward to enjoying the outdoor areas when summer eventually arrives. Oh and the best rib-eye steak I've ever had! Really recommend the Red Lion
We can’t praise the Red Lion enough. It really is an amazing pub restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely, with very professional friendly staff. The Landlord. Martin and Landlady Judy and their team made our wedding day so special- nothing was too much trouble. Oh and you must try their roast dinners on a Sunday
We’ve travelled down from South Derbyshire, for the local festival and returned to The Red Lion as have been in previous years. The change of ownership hasn’t changed the fantastic vibe in the pub, if anything it has enhanced it. Our accents make us stand out like sore thumbs but the landlord and the locals have given us a fantastic welcome. After a lovely meal outside on the patio on Saturday we’ve just had a top notch Sunday lunch. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. We are now leaving for the festival with a full belly and new friends made. Would definitely recommend the pub and we will definitely be back.Thank you for your hospitality
Excellent pub/restaurant. Great menu and delicious food. Staff were very friendly and attentive with a good sense of humour. Ample parking seen though we didn't use it. Definitely recommend
This isn't just a standard pub restaurant! This is as good as a West End restaurant. We booked for a Sunday lunch and the food was superb. I chose the Roast Duck special and I was not disappointed. What made this special was the friendly welcome by all the staff, the clean and well presented table with a table cloth, proper napkin (not paper!) and a lit candle. The presentation of the food was lovely and the roast potatoes were perfect. Coupled with a great chicken liver starter and dessert to finish, the whole experience was on point and delightful.It's not a Toby or Weatherspoons that's for sure.Price wise, it is affordable and what you would expect to pay for quality dining with a homely and welcoming ambience.

Just had our daughters 18th birthday here - Sunday Lunch for 20 people, couldn't have been better. We preordered, the food was delicious and arrived all at the same time and piping hot. There was a great selection of sides and desserts and was very good value. The service was exceptional, the dining area was light and airy and it had a great atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely recommend as a venue for a similar function or even just a meal.
This is a great pub for both eating and drinking, we have visited a few times and are always made very welcome by the owners. The staff are always very friendly and the service is good. We have eaten in the restaurant a number of times and last night had food from their takeaway menu. The food, eating in or taking away, is fantastic. You can tell they use quality ingredience and take pride in what they do. Highly recommended.
We visited The Red Lion Stanstead Abbotts yesterday, just on the off chance as we were passing. This was a Wednesday so the Wednesday Warmer menu was on offer. We had the Prawn Linguine - it was amazing! Full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The presentation was beautiful too. We were so impressed that we booked for today so we could try out the main menu as the choices we saw online looked delicious. We were not disappointed! We had the Duo of Lamb and the 8oz rump steak. Both cooked to perfection, with an array of flavours from the caramelised red onion mash, roasted shallot, red wine jus….we also indulged in desserts which were to die for!! This is not ‘pub grub’ this is restaurant quality food at a very reasonable price. The staff are warm and friendly. Highly recommend! We will definitely be returning.
We enjoyed a fantastic night at The Red Lion on Saturday night, great menu choice and the food was amazing, very tasty and good portion size, the staff were very attentive without being intrusive, we ordered a bottle of the house red wine which was really nice and the desserts were delicious. Highly recommended and reasonably priced. We will definitely book again.
Absolutely fantastic 1st time going, saw the Elvis impersonation and was a fabulous night. Staff were friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Atmosphere was brilliant, we had a very enjoyable night. BBQ Food was lovely and went down a treat .
